Understanding the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) YAKAP Benefit Program

What is YAKAP?
The YAKAP program stands for Yaman ng Kalusugan Program, and is the newer, expanded version of the former “Konsulta” benefit package from PhilHealth.
It is designed to shift the focus from treating sickness to preventing illness, strengthening primary and outpatient care for all Filipinos.
Why it matters for patients
- With YAKAP, members of PhilHealth can access free consultations, select laboratory tests, and essential medicines via accredited Clinic like MJJUDYMEDICAL.
- One major goal: reduce out-of-pocket costs for patients, and ease the burden of accessing primary care.
What are the basic benefits under YAKAP?
According to the program’s official FAQ:
- Free check-up at a chosen YAKAP Clinic (accredited)
- Laboratory services as indicated by a doctor at the YAKAP Clinic
- Cancer screening tests (depending on provider accreditation)
- Free medicines (through accredited pharmacies) for the medicines listed under the GAMOT program (Guaranteed Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment)
Key Features & Enhancements
- The list of medicines covered has been expanded: from initial sets to 75 essential medicines.
- Annual medicine benefit allowance (for medicines prescribed under the program) is up to ₱20,000 per member annually, when availed via accredited pharmacies.
- The program is NOW available to all PhilHealth members (including dependents) once they register in OUR YAKAP-accredited
How Patients Can Avail the YAKAP Benefits
- Ensure you are a registered member of PhilHealth and have your PhilHealth Identification Number (PIN) or membership updated.
- Choose and register at a YAKAP-accredited clinic (your “YAKAP Clinic”). You can do this via the eGov PH App, PhilHealth Member Portal, or at your local PhilHealth office.
- Visit our clinic for your initial consultation. The doctor may order laboratory tests or cancer screening (if needed) and prescribe medicines under the program.
- If medicines are prescribed, go to an accredited pharmacy under the GAMOT program (linked with YAKAP) to receive the medicines free of charge, up to the allocated benefit.
- Keep track of your benefit usage (e.g., medicines consumed from your annual allowance). If you exhaust the benefit, you may need to pay out-of-pocket for subsequent medicines.
What Patients Should Know & Ask
- Always check which clinic you are registered to as your YAKAP provider. Some facilities may not yet be fully accredited for all aspects (e.g., medicine dispensing) in some areas.
- For medicines under the GAMOT program: the prescription must come from your registered YAKAP clinic doctor. If not, the benefit may not apply.
- While many services are free, there may still be co-payments in certain private facilities or situations depending on accreditation status. Always ask: “Is this clinic fully YAKAP-accredited? What parts of the service are free?”
- Always bring your PhilHealth ID/PIN and ensure your membership and clinic registration are updated/validated before your visit.
- If you’re referred for a cancer screening or other advanced test under YAKAP, confirm the facility is accredited for that specific test under YAKAP. For example, mammograms, colonoscopy etc.
